Hair Tips and Trials

Brides of today, have a myriad of options for their nuptial locks, but one thing remains true: your wedding day is no time for a bad hair day. If you’re like most brides, you want your hair -- along with everything else -- to look more beautiful than it ever has. Your hair is your crowning glory, and the frame for that gorgeous face of yours.

Your hair reflects the condition of your health, so these are some of the tips you can follow, to give that extra shine and healthy look to your hair on the day of your wedding.

Look after yourself - yes, this means eating well, sleeping well and exercising. Good health will radiate from every hair follicle!

Start by drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water and because your hair loves a healthy diet, be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, include lots of essential fatty acids Omega-3’s and 6’s in your daily food, as well as taking your vitamins, not only will this reflect in the condition of your hair, but also your skin.

Because you’ll want your hair to shine on your special day, be sure to use a good salon recommended shampoo and conditioner, not just the week of your wedding, but several months in advance, this in turn smooths down the hair cuticles to help each strand reflect light.

Include in your new regimen, a conditioning treatment weekly, or a monthly in-salon deep treatment to rejuvenate and add health to the hair and scalp through stimulation and lastly treat your hair with lots of tender loving care, when possible aim to leave your dry naturally and give straighteners a rest as your big day approaches.

One of the most important things to organise is the TRIAL appointment. This is the day when we discuss all the details of how your hair and makeup will look. Where possible, have a trial well in advance of your wedding, this aids peace of mind. I usually recommend to try for around 3- 6 months before your wedding day, as your hair may need to grow longer for your desired style. I ask you to bring your chosen hair accessories – veil / tiara hair/ fascinator, if you already have them, so that I can work them into the style.

If you require a make-up artist a joint Hair and Make-up trial can be arranged.

I will photograph the finished look at your trial for future reference.
As well as the photo’s shown in the
GALLERY, I have an extensive portfolio of bridal hairstyles I have done, and will have these for your perusal at your trial. If you like, compile a scrap book of images as you browse through wedding and fashion magazines. Cut out photos of hair and makeup looks that appeal to you, and bring them to the trial, so I can get a clear idea of the look you want to achieve. Keep in mind if your hair is thick/long enough for the style you like, and if some styles will allow you to wear a headpiece, veil or hat.

Your choice of hairstyle ultimately depends on your personal preference, though some considerations that may greatly influence your choice of style are – the time of year your wedding falls - if it is known to be windy weather, or hot and humid weather, as this can turn long hair limp. The time of the ceremony - is it day or night? Is the ceremony indoors or outdoors? How long do you need the style to last? After taking all these things into consideration a guideline to follow is:

All Up: This look is very glamorous and stylish, suitable for both day and evening ceremonies. Very sturdy and will last all day and night

Half up/down: This is a romantic look, very young and youthful. Normally a day style but does transform well to eveningwear. Still sturdy and should last all day and night depending on the hair type and weather.

All down: The look is romantic and modern but normally considered more for the daytime than for evenings. Not as practical for outdoor weddings as this style won't last as long as the other two.

Combined with an extensive knowledge of the 'tricks of the trade', gathered from years of experience I can help advise you on what styles will best suit you on the day.

I will discuss if you need to grow your hair length, improve the condition with conditioning treatments, and can offer advice on a possible change of colour or highlights.

It is important to know that hair that is too soft does not style well, so deep conditioning treatments should not be used within four days of the wedding.

It is important to know that hair that is too soft and over-conditioned does not style well, so deep conditioning treatments should not be used within four days of the wedding. . For best styling results, shampoo, and very lightly condition your hair the day before your wedding as most hairdressers prefer to work with hair that is not freshly cleansed and in turn too soft, and in fact your own natural oils will help keep your hair shiny.

I cannot stress enough please DO NOT wash or wet your hair the day of the wedding, as steam or dampness are a hairdresser's worst enemy! This applies to all of the Bridal party.

If you are using fresh flowers in the hair, it is advisable to have them arrive early, so that I can decorate the hair around them.

On the day of the wedding, ask the bridal party to wear button or zip-up clothes. No turtle neck, or crew neck jumpers, and preferably no collars! This will ensure you don’t ruin the hair style.

I look forward to discussing your requirements, so please ring now to book your trial and/or wedding day appointments.
